Tauranga residents are feeling frustrated at the antisocial and unsafe behaviour displayed by numerous gang members on motorcyclists congregating in streets, doing burnouts and blocking access for other vehicles.

SunLive readers report that on Sunday, motorcyclists were "revving around the Hairini tunnel all morning”.

Locals say the burnouts happened on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday morning in Hairini and they tried phoning police.

Police say they received reports of traffic offending in the Mount Maunganui area on Sunday June 11.

'This occurred between State Highway 29A, Maungatapu and Maunganui Road,” says a Police spokesperson.

'Enquiries are ongoing.”

On Tuesday morning, a large group of more than 20 motorcyclists was reported doing burnouts and causing traffic delays at Mount Maunganui.

'They are on Links Ave, blocking the road. A bus can't get through,” says a SunLive reader.

'They're doing burnouts.”

Police say on Tuesday morning they received a report of traffic offending on Links Avenue, Mount Maunganui about 9.35am.

'Enquiries are ongoing,” says a police spokesperson.

Soft

Unfortunately this isn’t going to change unless someone steps up against these oxygen thieves. The police are too scared of gangs and when gang numbers are growing faster the police numbers can’t blame them……but it is their job to uphold law and order. Public need to do their own bit, these pieces of s**t need to be dealt with.

Unacceptable

Police are obviously scared of these low life gang members. Love to hear their excuse of why they couldn't attend this childish behaviour. And I thought the Govt was cracking down on gangs ... doesn't seem like it Labour!

Soft on crime

Over the last few years gang numbers have exploded, whilst prison population numbers have fallen. Before the next election we need to find out who (which group) is guilty of ignoring public safety and is responsible for the slow decline into a society living in fear. Who is setting the agenda to be soft on crime...? The Labour Party, The judiciary, The Police or is it the results of the MMP system where minority groups (Such as the Greens, the Maori Party and the Maori caucus) in parliament have huge amounts of influence over a weak government.

Reading these comments is quite disturbing, yes it is disruptive and frustrating, just like when boy racers convoy and stop traffic and do burnouts, but you don't see such hateful comments on that topic or blame. No one blaming co governance no one blaming labour, and no one calling them prices of s**t I wonder why

Oh Dear

Yet another negative article gull of moans from the offended of the Mount. This is then followed by the comments from the usual suspects who blame the Govt. Not all motorbike riders are gang members and not all gang members ride bikes. The continual moans from the few, which this paper delights in publishing to getting boring. IMO, this is one of the most negative papers in the country.
