UPDATE 6.10pm: A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says the road is now clear on State Highway 2 after it was earlier blocked by a crash west of Opotiki.

A police spokesperson says two people have been transported to hospital.

"It's reported one lane was blocked, and it should be clear now."

EARLIER 5.11pm: State Highway 2 west of Opotiki is blocked following a crash this evening.

A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says delays are "likely".

"Diversions may be required."
