Golden Valley Road in Waihi is closed to through traffic following a road washout.

A section of the road dropped away after a deluge of rain on Monday.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Hauraki District Council says both lanes have washed out at RP 0.900 and is impassable to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

The road is closed from RP 0.770 to RP 1.220. RP refers to the route position, which is the address format for describing a linear position on the road.

'There are no issues with access to properties nearby, but this road will be closed for through traffic for some time while we focus on reinstalling the road.”

While there are no other reports of major road closures in the area, people are advised to check with their local councils for local roading information and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency for state highway information.
