State Highway 2 is currently closed in both directions, just north of Matawai after a truck rolled this afternoon.

The fuel tanker has blocked both the north and southbound lanes.

"Emergency services are enroute to the site and there are no reports of any spillages from the truck or of any injuries.

"There is currently no estimated time of reopening, but Waka Kotahi is continuing to monitor the situation.

"We understand this will cause delays for people travelling along that stretch of road between Gisborne and Ōpōtiki.

"We'd like to thank road users for their patience as emergency services work to clear the crash site."
