Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that SH2 through Waimana Gorge is now open following slip clearance.

On Friday night the agency kept the road closed as conditions were "proving too treacherous to open the gorge".

"Contractors will be monitoring the site over the weekend."

On Thursday, a further slip came down in the gorge, resulting in more mud and debris on the road surface, slowing progress clearing the three existing slips, according to Waka Kotahi.

The road is now open between SH2/Station Road in Taneatua township and SH2/Wainui Road.
