A large tree planting event planned for the weekend will now go ahead this Saturday after the wet weather forced a postponement.
The Department of Conservation were forced to cancel the large tree planting at Athenree when unexpected downpours kept volunteers away.

A total of 3500 donated by Newmont Waihi Gold were set to be planted.
DOC's Community Relations Ranger Pete Huggins is hoping for finer weather this weekend and is encouraging people to join locals in planting trees from 12pm on Sunday.
'The ground will be nice and soft following all that rain so we invite people to come down this coming Sunday and lend a hand”, says Pete.
'We need lots of help to plant so many trees. It's a good time of year to visit this thriving wetland and see the spring growth, newly hatched ducklings and other birds. 'This is a vital habitat for wildlife and we are thrilled to be restoring it with the help of the community”.
The event is at the Athenree Wildlife Refuge Reserve on Steele Road between Athenree and Waihi Beach, just off SH2.
It will start at 12pm on Sunday.
Volunteers should wear gumboots and bring a spade if they have one.
