Reports are coming in of a crash on State Highway 36, between Rotorua and Tauranga.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there is a crash on the highway, near Te Matai Road.

"It looks serious.

"People should expect delays."

People are also posting on the Bay of Plenty Accidents Facebook page saying the crash is on the Tauranga side of the gorge on the Tauranga Direct Road.
