The Wairoa River toilet block in the Western Bay of Plenty is currently closed.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council Reserves and Facilities Team Leader Operations, Steven White says yesterday, they were made aware that grey water was coming out of the ground near the toilet block.

He says grey water is normally leached into the ground through a raised effluent field.

'Following a plumber assessment it appears the planting over the effluent field may have blocked the dripper pipes, causing some overflow.

'We have closed the toilets until we can ensure the effluent system is working correctly.

'Portaloos are in place by the toilet block until this issue is fixed.”
