Maintenance works are being planned for Mauao, which means some tracks will be closed in the coming days.

"In between wet weather and hot days - it's been a big summer for Mauao," says a statement from Tauranga City Council.

"To help keep the maunga in good shape there will be a couple of track closures in place while the team undertake vegetation management. Signage and barriers will be in place at the closure points."

The Oruahine track will be closed from 7am to 5pm on Thursday, February 23.

Access to the summit will still be possible via the Waikorire and Motukauri tracks.

If works cannot take place on Thursday, a backup day of Friday 24 February will be in place.
