Strand extension works postponed

Tauranga City Council is planning on installing a railway underpass at the southern end of The Strand Extension, near to the Matapihi Rail Bridge.

This is part of Tauranga City Council's plans to transform the waterfront in the city centre.

"The underpass will provide a link with a new section of boardwalk into the city centre, which will be completed in 2023," says a statement from the council.

"Construction work to install the underpass was scheduled to take place from Wednesday, 4 January to Friday, January 6 2023.

"Due to deteriorating weather and a forecast that is expected to make conditions unfavourable to safely complete the installation, these works have needed to be postponed.

"A new construction date is yet to be confirmed."

Maybe if they stop starting new projects they will finish the projects they’ve already started!?!

A Graffiti Billboard

A taggers dream. The amount of tagging and graffiti appearing around Tauranga is certainly increasing. It used to be dealt with as it appeared but then I suppose crime used to be as well. This has potential to become a visual nightmare in our city.

The 4 will just spend until we have no one left to pay. Who blows millions and millions going into one of the biggest recessions the world has seen. Oh year those who dont have to pay it.

How ridiculous is this. A total waste of money, there are plenty of places to cross in safety.

Tagging and rubbish

I've been specifically advised on multiple times by both various Tauranga Council customer services team members and those in charge at WestLink who have the NZTA contracts for rubbish clean up and graffiti, that fixing roads and upkeep of roading due to "weather bombs" are the priority over keeping the Bay of Plenty free from litter and the tagging everywhere. I advised that this is appalling and that they are all effectively allowing rubbish to create danger on roads and State Highways as well as into our environment and waterways and my my view it appeared that that contracts won with NZTA (and being well paid for) are not actually being completed on the supposed monthly regular basis and so I have advised NZTA. However I have not had any written response to date. Nothing like living in a dump.... it a wonder we still have visitors and tourists!

Here We Go Again

Weather not withstanding why does this seem like deja vue? Parking building come to mind anyone? Or maybe Cargo Shed allowed to rot? Why not set a new construction date instead of once again leaving a project up in the air? Or perhaps as one poster had already put it finish what’s already been started then hey presto you might actually finish a project. Far out even with commissioners it seems this city cannot move forward. Are we always doomed to be run by incompetents only in it for the money and kudos?
