Roads reopen as rain continues

Rain is expected to continue until at least 11am today.

UPDATE 12.17pm: SH25 is now reopen between Hikuai and Tairua following flooding earlier today. SH2 Waiotahe Beach is also reopen following a slip.

"Please drive through the area with care," says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.

SH2 Waiotahe Beach is also reopen under stop/go traffic management, following a slip reported earlier today.

"Allow extra time."

Earlier 6.32am: A number of roads are closed in the Coromandel areas as heavy rain continues.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is reporting one road closure in the Bay of Plenty.

"Due to a slip, SH2 is closed at Waiotahe beach. A detour is in place. Delay your journey or follow the detour and allow extra time."

Meanwhile, Coromandel's CFM is reporting flooding closures on State Highway 25 in two locations.

"What we know so far is that water is across the road at Hikuai and SH25 is closed according to NZTA between Hikuai and Tairua and is also closed between SH25A and McBeth Road due to a slip," says a post on the radio station's Facebook page.

"Hikuai Settlement Road is Closed between Prescotts Garage and the Waterways roundabout with a secondary closure at the 8k mark, due to surface water flooding making the road impassable.

"Wentworth Valley Rd is closed due to surface water flooding making the road impassable.

"Tapu Coroglen Road has a slip and staff on their way. Unsure if it is passable. Update to follow when identified.

"Kennedy bay Road has a slip and staff on their way. Unsure if it is passable. Update to follow when identified.

"Hot Water beach is reported to be closed. Crews on their way to identify Update to follow.

"309 Road is closed. A van has rolled blocking the road. It will remain closed until recovery is completed.

"A tree is across the road between Papa Aroha & Amodeo Bay Colville.

"On SH25 south of Whitianga near Wade Rd last night however this is now clear. Likewise Dalmeny was near to flooding with water over the bridge and rising."

A heavy rain warning remains in place for Coromandel Peninsula and western Bay of Plenty about and west of Tauranga including Kaimai-Mamaku ranges.
