History will be made this weekend as the newly formed Kaimai Cricket Club play their inaugural match against the Seddon Cricket Club.

Based on the "Kindred Cricket" model, the club was formed to unite cricketers of all generations, with a strong focus on developing new friendships with fellow cricket lovers and rekindling old friendships within the cricketing fraternity.

Beyond the social experience, the club has a strong focus on its members' health and wellbeing, and the inclusion of families, friends and the greater cricket community.

Kaimai Cricket Club president Richard Kane is looking forward to getting out on the park after months of planning and effort from the committee.

'We are extremely proud to bring Kindred Cricket to the Bay of Plenty with the launch of Kaimai Cricket Club. The new club is the result of months of hard work and planning by a bunch of cricketers who have a huge love for the game.

'Our vision is to bring cricket enthusiasts from all walks of life together and use cricket as the conduit for old mates to reunite and new friendships to be formed.”

In line with the club's values, the team boasts a mix of cricketers from around the BOP - including some who have played at first-class level, represented their region at the highest level and those who are huge supporters of cricket in the bay.

The passion for cricket is evident with everyone involved, including patron Neil Craig who has supported the clubs vision and offered his private cricket oval as Kaimai's home ground. Kane is looking forward to seeing it all come together on Sunday and sharing the moment with all those who have been involved.

'Everyone is extremely proud of what we have created in such a short space of time, we can't wait to get on the field this Sunday and play our mates from Seddon Cricket Club, it's going to be a huge occasion!”
