A report highlighting natural disasters in the Bay of Plenty shows the risk of tsunamis and earthquakes are the third most concerning natural event in the region.
Volcanic eruption scored fourth on the seriousness scale in the report.
The report was released by the Bay of Plenty Civil Defence Emergency Management Group.
Bay of Plenty residents are more concerned about earthquake and tsunamis rather than volcanic eruptions, despite the recent volcanic activity in the region.
The report says recent devastating earthquakes and tsunamis worried Bay coastal communities which have become increasingly concerned about the prospect of a tsunami.
Ranking high on the Bay's high priority hazards list is volcanic eruptions which are scoring 4.8, while local tsunamis are only scoring 3.5.
The high the scoring the higher the risk is to the Bay of Plenty.
There have been no recorded hazards in the region which have reached five or catastrophic risk.
Coastal storms, an animal disease epidemic, a human pandemic and rural fire were all ranked at 3.4.
Coastal erosion and heavy rainfall were given a moderate priority by Civil Defence, scoring 2.2 for seriousness of risk.
