Viewers react to Coro Street axing

Tauranga Coronation Street fans are torn about TVNZ's decision to axe the hour long Saturday night episode of the popular long running soap.

From Saturday, September 1TVNZ will replace the hour long episode of ‘Coro' with Come Dine With Me – an English reality cooking series similar to My Kitchen Rules.

The long running programme set in Northern England currently airs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on Television One.

From this Saturday fans will only be able to get their Coro fix twice a week at 7.30pm, also putting New Zealand further behind in the series.

At present NZ is about 19 months behind the United Kingdom in Coronation Street episodes with the 50th anniversary episode that aired in December 2010 in the UK, airing here last month.

SunLive's Facebook page received many mixed emotions from viewers on the decision to axe the Saturday night slot.

Many of whom were not too worried about the axing of Coronation Street, but would like to see it replaced with a programme more worthy than Come Dine With Me.

Tauranga's Vanessa Caseley wrote 'if ratings for Coro are not so great surely they could find something better than Come Dine With Me to replace it with”.

Jenny Gibson posted 'I didn't think there was anything worse than Coro St on Saturday night, but how wrong I was.”

Carole Shirley says 'sure will miss it, but come dine with me ain't that bad, it can be quite funny and ridiculous too, not too unhappy with the replacement, but would rather have Coro.”

Others were glad to see the back of Coronation Street with Dianne Dwight writing 'anything is better than Coronation Street” and Wendy Bree writing 'Coro St is garbage get rid of it”.

Become Bored With Me

This "show" is the most irrtating television I have ever attempted to enjoy. The stupid voice over comments ad nauseum, the prententious people trying too hard are just painful. Cheap, cheap, cheap. The test pattern (if on) is far superior.

Can not see the drama here, in fact why stop with axing (long long over due) with Saturday night, just can not figure why that decision was not made over 30 years ago.

30 YEARS ?

Sorry I mean 50 years, I just can not see how creative the poms are in generating over 50+ years of complete and utter garbage week in week out. In fact I would consider teh entire thing to be a complete waste of space, axe it all why wait any longer!

Bad programming

TVNZ keep chopping and changing their programming around. Coro is not suited to weekend viewing. I say that as an avid Coro fan. Weekdays are much better suited to any "soap". And as for the plethora of cooking programmes...I think most of the viewers have had enough from the conversations I have had. My wife and I will not be watching.. a DVD is sounding way better.

From bad to worse.

Whilst I am not a big fan of Coro or come dine with me I would like to ask termite what exactly does this country produce in the way of TV entertainment? Nothing but total crap with bad actors! Oh! I forgot about Jason Gunn the kiwi mega-star!

Ive watched core since i was a wee kid and find it amusing and relaxing and takes my mind off the challenges in my own life..sure its got some stupid story lines and dum characters at times (like all Soaps) but it does make me laugh and forget the real world ...so its a successful program for me...so it will be dissapointing not to be able to chill to it..and sad to get even further behind as you here about the story lines way before and it spoils the fun...Ill watch another channel instead...thank god for good movies on moari tv....

Different day of the week that is all, just go sit in Council Chambers for a day, you will be lucky to make it past the first 10 minutes and stay awake, it is that exciting for sure, Coro and Shivert bread street are all the same on quality, results and boredom factors, all are 100% perfect at that.

Can Coro and allt eh cooking shows, in fact staring at the grass growing is actual a far better occupation than all of this "soppy soapy" stuff for sure any day of the year or even lifetime.

Can Coro

Coro and those other British, rubbish shows should all be banned from Saturday night TV. Those of us unlucky enough not to have something better on, need cheering up not being subject to the dreary British rubbish that TVNZ serves up.
