Water leak at Te Puna intersection

Council is working on a more permanant solution to the leak.

Te Puna residents are being warned to expect lower water pressure from time-to-time as contractors work to fix a leaking pipe under the highway.

The Westtern Bay of Plenty District Council posted to its Facebook page yesterday to advise of the leak at the intersection of Ainsworth Road and State Highway 2.

" The leaking pipe is a bulk pipe that links our reservoirs in the Central zone - in short, our ability to fill up our reservoirs is impacted and we need to change over to a temporary pipe to maintain supply," reads the post.

"We started preparatory work Tuesday night to get the temporary pipe installed."

Council had hoped to get the temporary pipe installed on Wednesday and will also be installing a permanent pipe over the next week.

"There might be some delays on the highway and lower water pressures in some areas. In order for us to change over to the temporary pipe, we have to shut them off for periods of time.

"If you live along Ainsworth Road and around the Snodgrass area, you will be without water today as change over to the temporary pipe and then again when we change over to the permanent pipe.

"We apologise for the inconvenience, we're working as fast as we can to get this sorted."
