Tauranga city centre streets turned pink this week as thousands descended to celebrate and remember those who have had breast cancer.

This year's HOT Pink Walk marks the first time since 2019 that it has returned, with two years of Covid-19 restrictions preventing the event from taking place as usual.

All funds raised from the 3km walk are going directly to the Breast Cancer Support Service Tauranga Trust, which offers practical and emotional support to those going through breast cancer.

People began gathering at 5.30pm on Wedensday, October 5, at Masonic Park on the Strand, and warmed up with some Zumba.

The event officially kicked off at 6pm, when thousands took part in the 3km walk.

This year, event organisers also paid tribute to prominent community member Allison Stewart, who passed away earlier this year.

A photo of Allison was also displayed on the stage for this year's HOT Pink Walk.

Allison has been described as a "stalwart" for the people of Tauranga, and helped organise the event for more than a decade.
