Rain warning issued for BOP

Heavy rain is expected later on tonight.

A heavy rain warning has been issued for the Bay of Plenty.

A slow-moving front lies over the North Island with a trough approaching tonight, warns the MetService.

"This front is forecast to deliver further outbreaks of heavy rain to parts of the upper North Island, and eastern Bay of Plenty has now been upgraded to an Orange Warning.

"A Heavy Rain Watch remains in force for Northland.

"People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made, or further areas are added."

The MetService says heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly.

"Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous."
