Heavy rain this week has impacted on this week's Waihi Golf Club competitions, with an update on the week provided by club member Rodger Bagshaw:

"The three days of rain during the week caused the Wednesday ladies and Thursday men's competition days to be cancelled, and those that played on Saturday were relieved to wake up to clear skies," says Rodger.

Vets:

Fifty-eight Vets came on Monday morning for their weekly competition. This week it was the second of three rounds for the Par competition, and this week it was again our new lady golfer that came to the fore.

Despite her handicap being reduced by four shots from her previous week's effort, Denise Morgan's score was the best at +4, which was ahead of Alex Standfield, and Allen Sarjant, who both recorded +3.

Next were the husband and wife duo of Helen and Brian Bayne's who both scored +2, followed by Willie Lynch, Dianne Douglas, Anke Hermannsdorfer, Robyn Kirby, and Jenny O'Dwyer, who were all +1.

As there was no ladies mid-week golf, Susan Mustard was awarded the 'Dreamers Player of the Week” honour for her 73 nett recorded on the previous Saturday.

Nine hole:

This week the section played the first round of the 9 Hole Stroke Play Club Championship, and in the ladies section, division 1, Mandy Piper had the best score of gross 52, with Lorraine Meyer next on 54, while Margaret Meldrum and Helen Brady both had 56.

In division 2, Mary-Kate Paterson had the best score of the ladies with 51 gross, while Jenni Mora was next with 57, and Julia Nicolson (60).

In the men's division, Rex Smith had the top score of 50 gross, followed by Garth Pritchard (56), and Terry Paterson (57

Saturday Ladies:

The Saturday ladies were relieved to see that the weather had finally cleared away for them to enjoy their weekly haggle.

The competition this week was a stableford round, where Kaylene Croker came out on top with 35 points, and was closely followed by Phillipa Harvey, Georgia Mustard, and Jill Morrison, all registering 34 points.

Next was Denise Donald with 32, and Robyn Kirby, and Shoneen Dunning, both with 30 points.

Saturday Men:

A forecast of possible showers (that didn't really eventuate) realised a smaller field than usual for the morning haggle.

The winner of the morning stableford was Greg Rosevear with 37 points, followed by Bob Baunton with 35. Bob was another who played well after an overseas jaunt!

In third place was Harry Shepherd with 34, and next were Peter Hewitt, and John Drent with 32, while Daryll Denyer, Alex Standfield, Francis Gascoigne, Allen Smith, Tom Rowbotham, and David Croker, all had 32 points. Francis Gascoine had the only two in the morning field.

Likewise in the afternoon competition it was a slightly smaller field than usual, but it was Chris Pilmer that won with 38 points, followed by Chris Hale 37, while Charles Gurr, Paul Weaver, and David Lockton had 36. Andy Roche, and Wayne Brierley each had 35 points.

In the afternoon field, Andy Roche scored two 2's, while Paul Weaver, and Chris Hale recorded one each.
