Two arrested in Whakatāne homicide investigation

A 25-year-old man from Waimana and a 32-year old man from Taneatua have been arrested for the murder of 48-year-old Mark Hohua in Whakatāne last week.

The pair are due to appear in the Whakatāne District Court via audio-visual link on Saturday morning.

Mark was taken to Whakatāne Hospital shortly before 11.30am on Saturday, June 18.

He was hurt in a 'serious assault”, says police.

He was airlifted to Waikato hospital for treatment but died from his injuries later that day.

At the time of the assault Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson said the incident is "gang related", but he could not provide further details without compromising the ongoing investigation.
