Road reopens following fatal motorcycle crash

Police have confirmed one has died following a fatal crash on Amohau Street, Rotorua. The street is now open according to the NZ Transport Agency.

"One person has died following an earlier crash on Amohau Street (SH30A), Rotorua, near Te Ngae Road," says a police spokesperson.

NZ Transport Agency says the road is "fully open again," after the emergency.

"Thank you for your patience this morning," says a NZ Transport Agency spokesperson.

Police say the road was closed earlier this morning while emergency services were responding to the scene.

EARLIER 10:22am: Emergency services are responding to a report of a crash on Amohau Street, near Te Ngae Road.

A motorbike has crashed into a power pole, says a police spokesperson.

"The road is being closed in both directions.

"Diversions are being put in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area, if possible, or expect delays."

The road is closed between Te Ngae Road and Fenton Street.

Directions are as follows: Westbound traffic: left to Sala St (SH30), right to Fenton St, left to Amohau St to return to SH30A. Eastbound traffic in reverse. Heavy vehicles should use SH30 and SH5 via Sala St, Hemo Rd, Old Taupo Rd in both directions.
