Waikato shooting: Man appears in court

A man arrested in connection to an alleged shooting in the Waikato is behind bars.

Wade Lawrence Cresswell is facing charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawfully possessing a rifle, unlawfully possessing a pistol and unlawful possession of .22 calibre ammunition.

The 32-year-old Wardville man appeared in the Hamilton District Court this week, where is was remanded in custody, without plea, until June 29.

Th charges are in relation to an incident at a Waghorn Road address in Wardville, near Matamata, just after 1.35am on Tuesday.

Armed Offenders Squad officers were at the scene through the day and Waikato east area commander Inspector Dean Anderson confirmed one person suffered a gunshot wound.

'A man was located a short distance from a rural property with a gunshot injury and taken to hospital in a serious condition,” he said in a statement on the day.

'Indications are that the incident was not gang-related and the individuals were known to each other.”

Police thanked locals for their help and said they were not seeking anybody else in relation to the incident.
