More heavy rain is on the way for the Bay of Plenty this week.

The MetService has issued a warning and a watch for areas in the region.

A warning is in place for the Bay of Plenty, east of Kawerau.

From 6pm Tuesday to 9am Wednesday, the MetService is forecasting 75 to 100mm of rain to fall in that 15 hour period.

"Peak rates of 15 to 25mm/h are expected, with thunderstorms possible."

Meanwhile, a watch is in place for the Bay of Plenty about and west of Kawerau, including Rotorua.

In the eight hours from 4pm today to 12am Wednesday, periods of heavy rain are being forecast with thunderstorms possible.

"A moist north to northwest flow with embedded fronts brings periods of rain to much of the country this week, while a front moves slowly over Bay of Plenty today and Wednesday morning," says a spokesperson for the weather organisation.

"The heaviest rain is likely in eastern Bay of Plenty, Buller and the far north of Westland where Warnings are now in force.

"Heavy Rain Watches are also in place for Fiordland, the remainder of Westland, northwest Tasman, northwest Marlborough, the Tararua Range, western Bay of Plenty and northern Gisborne.

"People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made, or more areas are added."

....that the Council and Government are neglecting key infrastructure such as a means for collecting all this rain. Instead, we will all be on hose pipe bans come November. May be spent money on this sort of infrastructure instead of museums and meeting rooms!!
