Water metering enough

Water metering enough

It seems only weeks ago that City Council stuck us with an extra $3m because we weren't using enough water. In fact we were well below the targeted average usage. Now it seems that Councillor Faulkner isn't happy with that, he wants to introduce a stepped tariff for water that he calls a 'truly user pays system”. Well don't bother Bill, we already have a truly user pays system, it's called water metering. The more you use, the more you pay. For goodness sake, just produce enough good clean water the way you always have and collect water rates the way you always have. That's one of Council's core duties isn't it? Why introduce weasely new charges that can be tinkered with all the time.
The other thing that was mentioned is charges for wastewater based on water meter readings. This was introduced in Auckland when they privatised the water and wastewater supply. Caused no end of trouble. Are we thinking of privatisation? No? Didn't think so.

Water metering enough

When you vote anyone onto a council you need to be aware of what is the nature of the person you are voting for. Is this person a humanitarian? Is the person a money grubber? Is this person honest? Is the person seeking a place on the council for self aggrandisement? Is this person a fool that likes to toss money into a headwind as long as it's not his or her own? Is this person full of self interest? Is this person an idiot? Has this person any understanding of things financial? The list goes on and on and so far it seems many councillors in NZ are not fit to be on councils esp in Tauranga. Tauranga ratepayers are the second most heavily rated in NZ. You can change that at the next election or would you refer to be the most heavily rated ratepayers in NZ And here we have a councillor who cannot understand that there is not fairer way to collect water rates than by a meter. We all need to be careful who we vote for at the next election or we may find because we live in a nicer street than perhaps someone else does to reach this fairer way of massaging money out of the ratepayers pockets we may find we have two water meters one to measure the amount of water we use and the other to double it. Perhaps this councillor could stand by his car at the next petrol fill up and see how a meter works and how you are charged for what actually goes through the meter ad learn that's how water meters work too . For God's sake Alastair Bethlehem
