Coastguard Tairua-Pauanui was paged at 2pm to an injured boatie in need of assistance south of the Aldermen Islands.

Volunteers aboard Pauanui Rescue reached the scene shortly before 3pm, rendezvousing with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The Westpac medic was hi-line transferred to Pauanui Rescue and after assessing the patient, the medic and patient were winched up to the helicopter.

"With Westpac transferring the patient to Middlemore Hospital, we delivered the remaining boatie and the vessel back to Royal Billy boat ramp and assisted in getting the boat, car and trailer back to their Pauanui residence," says Coastguard Tairua-Pauanui President Andrew Gibson.

"We wish the boatie a speedy recovery, and thank the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew for their role in the rescue."
