Western Bay of Plenty District libraries are going to open their doors on Saturdays once again.

Saturday openings return to the schedule on 9 April, as library and service centre teams return to full capacity and additional precautionary measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 are lifted.

The temporary Saturday closures were put in place while some of our library team were isolating, and Council had to carefully manage rostering of the team across sites.

Council's Customer Service and Governance Manager, Barbara Whitton is pleased the team are fully recovered and knows they're excited to be back in the library.

'Our library and service centres team really care for their communities, and they're happy to be getting back to what they love – working with our people.”

Libraries continue to evolve as community facilities, now offering patrons digital technology, events, programmes, training, and access to Council and community services.

Barbara says, 'We know that our communities are full of busy people. Being able to visit the library on the weekend is really helpful for whānau who don't have the time during the week.

'We want to be as accessible as possible, so it was a priority for us to get Saturday opening going again as soon as we could.”

Note all library and service centres will be closed on Easter Saturday 16 April.
