Police have confirmed one person is dead following a workplace incident in Omkoroa.

Emergency services were called to the incident near Te Kaka Place just after 1pm.

SunLive reader who lives in Te Puna reported seeing the rescue chopper fly over their property just before 1.30pm.

'It was heading north from Tauranga.”

A police spokesperson says they received a report of an incident in which one person had been injured.

"Emergency services attended but sadly, the person has died at the scene.

"An investigation is underway and WorkSafe has been notified."
