'Kia ora Tauranga, we'd like to say Merry Christmas to everybody and Happy New Year,” says The Incubator director Simone Anderson. 'We hope you have a great holiday.

'If you're looking for things to do over the summer we have the Fringe Festival coming up in January. We have a Summer Arts Academy, and our brand new Pot House and Artists Window Gallery open in the village.”

The Tauranga Fringe Festival, touted to be a ‘manifestation of creativity' will be held on January 15 at Tauranga Historic Village and all artists and art forms are welcome to be involved.

'A celebration of otherness and artistic adventure, Fringe is about handing the microphone to our artistic community and creating a platform for our arts sector to connect with audience and spectators,” says the festival organisers. 'This festival is open access for all performers to be a part of.”

The vision for the 2022 Tauranga Fringe is a one-day spectacular, full of strange creativity, alternative art practices, the bizarre, the beautiful, the disruptive, the extreme and the provocative, and above all stimulating sensationalism.

Visual artists, musicians, theatre acts, cosplay artists, playwrights, steampunkers, Disruptive artists, beat poets, dark cabaret, installations, dancers, magicians, buskers, poets, zine makers, writers, actors, flashmobbers, dance troupes and collectives are all expected to take part in the day.

The Fringe on January 15 will be free for children under 14, and only $10 for everyone else for the whole day.

The Historic Village is open over the summer with galleries and activities, as well as the bush walk and village grounds to explore.

'The village is humming with arts activities and we'd love to see you down here,” says Simone. 'Take care everybody. Merry Christmas.”
