While the present location of Mount Information Centre may not be perfect from a visual aspect, from a practical aspect it is about as good as it gets. At the entry to the Mount, near the cruise ships and adjoins the Police Station.
It is sheer lunacy to think of moving it to the Mount Camping Ground offices which is at the end of a limb at the base of the Mount, has no visual presence, no parking and would be difficult to get access to. A possible option is to combine Information offices at Salisbury Avenue with Mount Mainstreet offices.
Tourism BOP comes up with inane schemes and not long ago, as I recall, it was chasing around $800,000 from Council. It has a prime position in Tauranga CBD yet is an underwhelming achiever, funded almost entirely from targeted rates. With this sort of nonsense and a propensity to protect its own existence, the only conclusion is close Tourism BOP down before it causes real harm. TCC could contract out the services currently provided and probably receive money in doing so.
