The government has come under flak for supposedly not doing enough to communicate its Covid-19 message in different languages and to diverse communities.
A member of Papatoetoe's Tongan community is calling for the Covid-19 Tracer app to be available in more languages than just English.
Tapaita Ram'en says not making the programme available in Tongan is a major barrier to older people.
The Ministry of Health says the software will support other languages in future releases, but this has taken a backseat to other priority updates.
While, the Māori Students' Association says generic information about the official response to Covid-19 often fails to reach specific communities.
Mihiterina Williams from Te Whakatōhea from the University of Auckland says there is often a lack of specific information catering to minority communities, particularly young people and ethnic communities.
