Unsettled weather settling in

Unsettled weather conditions are expected to bring more rain to parts of the Bay of Plenty today.

The Metservice says a trough crossing the country will bring rain to most places on Friday into early Saturday.

Northerlies are expected for most parts of the Bay of Plenty turning to southwesterlies tomorrow.

Media and communications meteorologist Daniel Corbett says strong gusty winds are also likely.

'This morning there is a risk of squally thunderstorms and maybe a small tornado along the coast from just south of Auckland to Taranaki.”

Any rough weather is expected to ease on Saturday, with another active trough expected to pass across the country on Sunday.

Daniel says this will be accompanied by moderate to heavy rain.

'This trough is a different animal from Friday's. Behind it, the air is expected to be notably colder, with the first significant snow the year likely in the South Island on Sunday.”
