One person has died following a crash on Matata Straights yesterday.

The two vehicle incident was reported around 3.32pm yesterday afternoon and the road was closed for some time.

The Bay of Plenty District Health Board confirms one person bought to Tauranga Hospital has died.

"We have two people in our Intensive Care Unit both of whom are in stable condition," a spokesperson says.

The Serious Crash Unit was notified at the time of the crash.
