Tauranga rapper Michael Graves is facing one charge of assaulting his on-off girlfriend actress Keisha Castle Hughes.

Michael Graves, 22, originally from Tauranga, but now living in Auckland, has been charged with assault after an altercation with the actress following an Oscars' party in Auckland.

Graves appeared in Auckland District Court on Tuesday on one charge of assault and was remanded on bail to reappear in court on March 13.

The NZ Herald is reporting the attack allegedly happened when Graves tried to stop Keisha, 21, from jumping out of a vehicle after leaving an Oscars party together on Monday night.

The couple have been on-off since Keisha split from Bradley Hull, the father of her four-year-old daughter.

In March last year Keisha was also taken away from a nightclub by police following a fight.
