Tim Taylor crossed the Hauraki Gulf on Sunday and today sets out on the final stretch of his New Zealand coastal voyage – the paddle down the Coromandel.
His parents Paul and Lyn flew up to see him crossing the Gulf and took photos.

'It was a perfect day for flying, but it was a mission to find him,” says Lyn.
'We knew exactly where he was meant to be, but it was very difficult with the glare and just the size of him, however, I now have the shots to say we did see him.”
Tim could be home Wednesday, finishing a 5000km journey that's taken two summers and places him in the record books as the youngest person to kayak around New Zealand – and the shortest time, so far.
'I think he's just on a mission to get back now,” says Lyn.
He's changed his scheduled stop, camping at Stony Bay just north of Port Charles on Sunday instead of Fantail Bay on the west coast.
Today Tim's scheduled stop is Otama Bay, just before the Hole In The Wall and Mercury Bay.
During the circum-kayak Tim's done a couple of 90km plus days, but he still wants to crack the tonne – paddling 100km in a single day.
His current scheduled is Otama, Pauanui, arriving in Tauranga on Wednesday.
'He phoned last night and said he was going to do Pauanui to Tauranga in one day,” says Lyn.
'I don't know if he's going to get his 100km day. Paunaui to home is not a 100k's.”
On his current schedule and depending on weather, Tim could be paddling up to the car park beside the Wairoa River bridge later on Wednesday afternoon.
'He's in real good spirits and everything,” says Lyn 'I'm really happy it's finishing like this with no dramas.”
