A new information and historical centre at McLaren Falls Park is open with the ceremony attended this morning by about 40 people.
Among the attendees were Mayor Stuart Crosby and several Tauranga City Councillors, park ranger Gary Borman and philanthropist Harold Marshall.
Mayor Stuart Crosby and philanthropist Harold Marshall read one of the informative boards in the new McLaren Falls Information Centre.
The news centre cost $380,573 to build and is intended to increase the educational experience of those visiting the park through informative displays.
Gary says about 70,000 vehicles and about 150,000 people visit McLaren Falls every year.
It offers 10-12km of walkway, trout fishing, New Zealand's second largest arboretum, an equestrian area, barbecues and glow-worm walks.

The new information centre.
Within the park, nearly every tree is accounted for by the Bay of Plenty Tree Society.
They are installing GPS locaters and registering each tree within the arboretum.
The GPS locaters will enable visitors to the park to identify the species of each tree on a mobile device as they walk around.

but couldn't a bit of thought have gone into the color of steel roof? standing amongst all the greenery, the roof glares, especially given todays weather.
