Rain forecast for New Years

The Metservice is predicting heavy rain for parts of the North Island, including the Bay of Plenty, later this week.

A weather watch has been issued by the Metservice with rain likely to develop in the region on Thursday and Friday.

File picture.

The Metservice says this will be caused by a very moist and warm, northerly airflow which is expected to spread over the northern and central New Zealand.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected to set in during Thursday in Northland, Taranaki and Nelson and for the other areas on Friday.

The Metservice says for most of the areas, rain should ease by Saturday morning but could remain heavy in Bay of Plenty until Sunday.

And some, a bit a wind to I think, NE and N winds for sure will mean all of that for the top half of the north Island.
