A chance of showers for the Bay of Plenty

Some people's prayers may be answered today, with the possibility of some showers for the region.

A ridge hangs over New Zealand today, but WeatherWatch.co.nz says not all is settled.

High moisture may lead to afternoon heavy showers about central North Island regions and a frontal feature over the South Island brings some rain in the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells, chance of a shower or two for Northland, Auckland and coastal Bay Of Plenty otherwise mainly dry.

The Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty may see showers become heavy in the afternoon before clearing later in the evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 24-28

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Some morning sun then isolated showers develop in the afternoon, some may be heavy before clearing later in the evening. Northerlies tend northwest around midday.
Highs: 24-27

Eastern North Island

Morning sun then cloud builds from midday, isolated showers develop in the afternoon possibly heavy before easing in the evening. Showers more likely about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, less likely about Wairarapa. Light northerlies.
Highs: 26-29

Wellington

Sunny spells with breezy northerly winds.
High: 24

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with some late high cloud for Marlborough, Nelson may see some mid level cloud from afternoon. North to northwesterly winds pick up in the afternoon.
Highs: 24-29

Canterbury

Sunny areas with some mid / high level cloud, north to northwesterly winds may tend a little more northeast on the coast.
Highs: 28-30

West Coast

Periods of rain, possibly heavy at times with northeasterly winds tending more north to northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 21-22

Southland & Otago

Some cloud, especially morning then more frequent areas of sun from afternoon. Rain later in the evening for Southland with a southwest change.
Highs: 21-26
