There is a chance of showers for some places in the North Island today.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says a large anticyclone with its centre just east of the South Island directs an easterly quarter airflow over New Zealand today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, a shower or two about Coromandel, Great Barrier Island and Northland (especially in the east). East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 22-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud clears, southeasterly winds. Afternoon westerlies possible for northern Taranaki.
Highs: 20-24

Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two, more so about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington
Sunny spells with southeasterly winds.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning cloud then mostly sunny, east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-21

Canterbury
Morning cloud then mostly sunny, breezy easterlies.
Highs: 18-19

West Coast
Mostly sunny for North Westland, South Westland is a bit cloudier with a shower or two. Light winds.
Highs: 19-24

Southland & Otago
Sunny with light winds for most, east to northeasterly winds freshen up in the afternoon about coastal Otago.
Highs: 17-24
