One person is in a serious condition following a two car crash near Turangi.

The crash happened at about 12.10pm, says a police media spokesperson.

"The crash is involving two vehicles at the intersection of SH 41 and Pukawa Road, Omori.

"One person is in a serious condition and another received moderate injuries.

"A helicopter has been dispatched and motorists are asked to avoid the area."

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
