Good morning Sunners, and welcome to a real day of rest after the hectic three days.

Today won't be as hot has yesterday, but be rested assured it's going to be a mostly sunny and hot day in paradise with a high of 22 degrees and chances of showers in the afternoon.

Whether you are the cheerleader of your family or the one trying to work off the added Christmas weight, it's all happening down at the Mount Main Beach today.

The Eves Surbreaker Triathlon is breaking from the tradition this year by having a swim leg at the Mount Main beach in the surf.

This annual event has been held now for more than 30 years and some great NZ Triathlon have won here.

The event will have two distances to offer: A Sprint Distance race of 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run finishing off with a soft-sand run along the Main Beach, and a Super Sprint race of 375m swim, 7km bike and 2.5km run, finishing with a soft-sand run along the Main Beach.

There will also be a six legged Elite Triathlon race, which was introduced in 2017.

The Eves Surbreaker Triathlon is until 1pm at Mount Main Beach, Marine Parade.

Mount Summer Carnival

If you are wanting something a bit more thrilling, the Mount Summer Carnival may be the one for you.

Enjoy all the Fun of the Fair at this year's Mount Summer Carnival, with great favourites like the Dodgem Cars, Hurricane, Ferris Wheel, the Extreme Turbo Boost, Hot Dogs, Candy Floss, Carnival Games and much more.

The Texas Zipper is also back, which is a true white knuckle sensation now with over 1000's LED lights.

The Mount Summer Carnival will run from 6pm-10pm today at Blake Park on Maunganui Road. Free entry just pay for the rides and games you want to try.
