Bay of Plenty resident David Naughton Leavy says while he always have loved writing, the idea for a Christmas novel came out of the blue.

David was born in Cheshire in the United Kingdom, but currently resides in the Tauranga suburb Welcome Bay.

His first ever published novel ‘The Herald Angels – a Christmas story' has taken two years in the making.

David says he wanted to keep the book along the traditional side of things, but when he means traditional, he means all the traditions that he used to have while he was growing up and the traditions his children have grown up with.

Incorporated all throughout the book are David's traditions. There is snow and a fireplace, something that David acknowledged we don't get to experience her in New Zealand. He also put in one family tradition with hanging stockings at the end of the beds.

'There would always be an orange at the end of the stocking. But no one would ever eat it!” says David.

The message in the book, explores the true meaning of Christmas, and reflected on past experiences of David.

David is a big fan of a magical Christmas and it shows through the events of the novel.

'The family thing is key,” says David.

'I think it is a really important thing to keep the traditions alive, Christmas is all about friends and family you have to love it as much as you can to keep that magic alive.”

There is a lot of nostalgia in the novel, and David says he hopes to keep the magic alive with all ages, no matter if you are eight or 98.
