Two lucky recipients have been awarded for their participation in Whakatane District Council's Active Whakatane project.

A transport and recreation strategy which aims to make it easier and safer for people to use our roads, pathways, tracks and open spaces, and gain access to services and activities.

People living throughout the Whakatane District were asked to do a public survey for the Active Whakatane project.

Council Team Leader Strategy and Asset Management, Anne-Elise Reynolds says the survey will help greatly with the strategy development.

'The feedback will help us to identify how people are travelling on our roads and footpaths, what their concerns are and how we can plan to encourage more active travelling.”

The Whakatane District Council provided two $250 Bike Barn vouchers as prizes for two lucky people who completed the survey.

Anne- Elise says the survey has provided a lot of information that will now be included in the planning stage for the Active Whakatane strategy.

'We will also be seeking more in-depth feedback from the communities across the District next year.”

The Active Whakatane Strategy will use all of the feedback gathered to address the needs and safety requirements of a wide variety of travelers, including walkers, cyclists, e-bikers, mobility drivers, scooter riders, and even horse riders.

It will also include the needs of visitors to our area, people who have disabilities, and active recreational users (mountain bikers, walking track users etc.).
