Tauranga roadsides are full of broken glass. The self-centred culture of boy racers throwing bottles out their car windows means the problem is at its worst in summer. February is cycle week. No point promoting healthy non-polluting commuting if you can't get around without punctures. I've had 3 in 2 weeks and my wife had 2 in one day, all resulting from glass.
Solutions - 1. Road sweeping needs to be increased - council has an obligation to provide safe roads. 2. 100% tax on beverage sales in glass or refunds mandatory, funds spent supporting clean up and enforcement.
PS - I do walk routes and pick up glass but the problem is too big for this to help. Common sense needed. Cheers.
