Blackcaps remain to help ND go two from two

Northern Districts will again have the services of Neil Wagner for their second round Plunket Shield match in Christchurch

Northern Districts will again have a handy contingent of Blackcaps internationals to help them go two from two, when they take on Canterbury in the second round of the Plunket Shield beginning today in Christchurch.

They swept Otago aside at the Bay Oval in round one by eight wickets with the help of six internationals, and while they don't have the riches of Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and BJ Watling to call on for this match, they've still been able to name the potent weapons of Neil Wagner, Ish Sodhi and Colin de Grandhomme in their side.

There had been hope that Tim Southee, who sat out the Bay Oval match with an inflamed knee, might have been able to join the team in Christchurch but that has not eventuated.

After taking seven scalps at the Bay Oval Wagner sits at the top of the wicket-taking charts, and will be looking to create the same kind of havoc in the Canterbury batting lineup as he did in helping demolish the Otago order in both innings.

Captain Daniel Flynn, one of four Bay of Plenty-based players in the side, is looking forward to seeing what his side can do against Canterbury after battering Otago.

'It was nice to get a win under our belts to start the season,” he says. 'We'll be looking to carry that momentum into this game against a strong Canterbury side.”

Following this match Wagner, Sodhi and de Grandhomme will rejoin their Blackcaps teammates for their trip to the United Arab Emirates to take on Pakistan.

The Northern Districts team for round two of the Plunket Shield starting today at 10.30 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch:
