What’s On? Rugby, gemstones and charity

Good morning SunLive readers and welcome back to Saturday!

It seems while the weather in our neck of the woods may have been a little touch-and-go these past couple days, we may finally be catching a break.

MetService has forecasted some morning showers however by the end of the day it's looking fine. Gusty southeasterlies are also on the cards and the high is sitting on about 16°C with a low of 5°C overnight.

Today's main event is one that's bound to be marked on many calendars. The Mitre 10 Cup comes to Tauranga Domain, as the Volcanix take on Auckland, followed by a face-off between Bay of Plenty and Northland.

The Volcanix game kicks off from 11.30, with the Steamers game kicking off at 2.35pm.

Road closures will be in place for a majority of the day on Cameron Road between Brown Street and Wharf Street so if you're planning on heading towards the area today, be sure to plan ahead and avoid delays.

If you're interested in doing something today that's a little more chill, why not head out to the National Gemstone, Crystal and Fossil Show.

The event is being hosted by the local Tauranga Gem and Mineral Club at Tauranga Racecourse throughout the weekend.

View outstanding displays of Gemstones, Fossils and crystals from throughout NZ and the world through a variety of stalls and find some treasures of your own.

Plus, there's also lots of activities specifically for children at the event.

And if you're keen on taking a drive, why not head over to the Eastern Bay where a charity boot sale is helping to raise crucial funds for sick children and their families in the region.

Countdown Whakatane is hosting a charity car boot sale, and all are welcome to host a stall.

Spaces cost $10, with all money going towards the nationwide Countdown Kids Appeal.

Plus don't forget to check all of our listings to see what else is on, below:
