Investigation continues after Opotiki fire

An investigation is still underway to determine the cause of a fire that happened in Opotiki yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to an abandoned hall on the corner of Ford and St John Streets, just after 3.30pm.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Scott Osmond says four fire crews attended the blaze and were there until 8pm last night.

A police spokesperson says witnesses reported seeing a number of youths leaving the building.

'Police located two or three youths nearby and were speaking to them in relation to the fire.”

'A scene guard was in place last night and we will be working with fire to examine the scene today.”
