Name suppression for Papamoa stabbing

A man appeared in Tauranga District Court today charged with murder after an alleged fatal stabbing at a Papamoa address on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, who has name suppression, will remain in custody until he appears at the Tauranga High Court on October 3 via audio visual link.

No plea has yet been entered to the charge. Judge Greg Hollister-Jones has asked for a medical report to assess the accused's fitness for trial.

The victim, who also has name suppression, died after being stabbed at the Papamoa address.

No one else was injured in this altercation and no one else has been sought in relation to the death.
