Police are seeking information after a teenager was shot in the face on Friday.

The incident happened about 11.30pm on Sullivan Road, Horsham Downs, Waikato.

A 17-year-old man, who was a passenger in a vehicle at the time, received a gunshot wound to the face, says a police spokesperson.

"He was transported to Waikato Hospital and is in a stable condition.

"Police are currently working to understand the circumstances of the incident and would like to speak to anyone who may have information about what occurred."
