A 19-year-old man is facing a murder charge in relation to the death of a Bay of Plenty woman.

The 22-year-old Rotorua woman's body was found on the grounds of St Michael's Catholic School on Friday.

It's not clear how she died, but a post mortem was expected to be carried out yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Van Kempen says the man was known to the victim, Lynace Parakuka, but police will not be commenting on the nature of their relationship.

'Police would like to thank the local community for their cooperation as we have investigated Lynace's tragic death.

'We also want to reassure the community that we are not seeking anyone else in relation to Lynace's death.”

The man will appear in Rotorua District Court this morning.
