Driver flees police, crashes car in Tauranga

Police arrested the alleged driver after the vehicle crashed outside Otumoetai Primary School.

A man is in police custody after allegedly leading police on a chase through Tauranga.

Police sirens could be heard wailing in Brookfield as officers pursued the fleeing vehicle just before 8.30pm.

Police took the driver of the vehicle into custody after the vehicle crashed outside Otumoetai Primary School.

"There was a fleeing driver incident after a driver failed to stop for police," says a police spokesperson.

"After the driver failed to stop police followed for a short time, however, this was abandoned due to the nature of the driving of the fleeing driver.

"A short time later the vehicle in question was found crashed and the driver of the vehicle was arrested."

Police say no-one was injured in the crash and no other vehicles were involved.
