taxpayer funded life support for over 100 years

An "official" language that 1% of 1% can speak and the rest don't care. Sorry, that is not an 'official' language, other than in name only. Oh, and did I mention the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars wasted in keeping it on life support?

Captain Sensible, New Zealand needs people who can speak more languages because we are a trading nation. Educational experts tell us that teaching schoolchildren a second language is the best foundation for learning other languages. The only second language that New Zealand has the resources to teach is Maori. And Maori language has survived because of its quality and beauty.
